Uzbekistani citizen Amon Yusupov, known on social media under the pseudonym “Sherkhon”, was sentenced to 4 years in prison for insulting the president, UzNews reports.
The incident occurred in February 2023. Yusupov, while in Kazakhstan, went live on TikTok and allowed insulting remarks directed at the country’s leadership. After the incident, Yusupov was outside Uzbekistan — in Turkey and Azerbaijan.
In April 2025, he was detained in Azerbaijan. In court, he admitted his guilt and publicly apologized, stating that he regretted his actions. The court found him guilty under Article 158, Part 3 (Assault on the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan) and sentenced him to 4 years in prison. Previously, Yusupov had already been held accountable, but at that time, lighter measures were applied to him.
As a reminder, a young man in the Tashkent region was convicted of insulting the president on social media. The court sentenced the young man to two years of restricted freedom.
