In Tashkent, fraudsters stole money from citizens’ bank cards using virus-infected apps — video

The criminals managed to embezzle billions of soums.

In Tashkent, fraudsters who distributed .apk applications with viruses on social networks were apprehended, the press service of the Cybersecurity Center reports.

With the aid of virus programs, fraudsters stole money from citizens’ bank cards. During operational activities, 11 members of the group were identified, of whom 5 were detained. Investigations revealed that more than 2.8 billion soums were stolen from 133 bank cards. A criminal case has been initiated regarding this matter, and efforts are ongoing to identify other members of the group.

Recall that in Uzbekistan, a group of fraudsters stole money from citizens’ cards. The offenders managed to steal 1 billion soums from 117 cards. The management of fraudulent actions and thefts was carried out through a call centre. According to information, the group consisted of citizens from different states.
