In Tashkent, law enforcement officers detained a citizen who attempted to repay a loan with counterfeit foreign currency bills, the press service of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes reports.
According to the information, the incident occurred in the Yangikhayot district. A previously convicted citizen entered the trust of an acquaintance and took $4,000 from him under the pretext of delivering 4 tons of tomatoes, however, the received money was spent on his own needs.
When his acquaintance demanded the debt from the suspect, the man gave him 40 counterfeit $100 banknotes. As a result, law enforcement officers detained the man and initiated criminal proceedings against him under Article 168 (Fraud) and Article (Preparation, sale of counterfeit money, excise stamps or securities). Investigative actions are underway.
Earlier, it was reported that two counterfeiters were caught selling counterfeit dollars in Tashkent. Law enforcement officers are conducting an investigation.
