In Navoi region, a man hit his wife the day after the court’s decision to pay alimony, leaving her in a wheelchair, reports the NeMolchi.uz project.

According to the information, the incident occurred in the Kyzyltepa district. According to the victim, the woman had been beaten and abused by her husband for many years, and her relatives hadn’t contacted law enforcement officers, fearing to ruin the family. Unable to bear it, the woman filed for divorce. On August 12, 2025, the Navoi Regional Civil Court reviewed the case and ordered the man to pay alimony for the maintenance of his 4 minor children.

The next day, the victim’s husband called her and demanded she refuse alimony, stating that otherwise, she shouldn’t expect “no good” from him. On August 14, while driving a Damas, the man hit his ex-wife, who was walking along the roadside. As a result of the accident, the woman suffered a fracture of her spine, damage to her nerve endings, and paralysis of her lower body.

According to the victim’s relatives, law enforcement officers initiated criminal proceedings against the man under Article 266 (Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles) and did not consider it as a deliberate traffic accident, but compiled a case under a “softer article.” At the same time, the man continues to write to his ex-wife and hint that “nothing good will happen.”

Also, the victim’s relatives said that they don’t understand how the investigation is going, they don’t know about the results of the ongoing examinations and what to expect. At the same time, the injured woman is still in the hospital. The relatives say that a lot of money has already been spent on the woman’s treatment, and she will be operated on in Tashkent, but they don’t have the money yet. The woman’s ex-husband is not helping her with the treatment.

This case raises a lot of questions about the women’s protection system in Uzbekistan. Why are women who try to escape domestic violence forced to risk their lives? Why do men like Shahriyar feel such irresponsibility and impunity that they’re ready to kill just to avoid paying alimony for their children? Why, despite the chronology of events with a difference of one day and a clear motive, does the investigation not see in the attempt to kill his wife as an accident, equating it to a coincidence? Why should she and her loved ones live in fear and without support? – concluded the NeMolchi.uz project.

Earlier, it was reported that a man in Jizzakh was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to his wife. The citizen accused his wife of his son driving in his car and being fined, after which he beat her with a metal teapot.
