In Fergana, a fraudulent scheme for selling rice without paying customs duties was revealed

Citizens imported the product under the guise of transit, but sold it within the country to avoid paying customs duties.

In the Fergana region, law enforcement officers uncovered a criminal scheme of selling rice without paying customs duties, the press service of the State Customs Committee reports.

On November 2, two trucks carrying 50 tons of groats entered the country through the “Najimov” border customs post in Tashkent region. According to the documents, the vehicles were supposed to transit through the territory of Uzbekistan and exit through the “Dustlik” checkpoint in Andijan region to the neighboring state.

However, the drivers headed not to their destination, but to one of the private warehouses in the Bogdod district of the Fergana region. There, as it turned out, all the cargo was unloaded and sold. At the same time, the seals on the trailers remained untouched.

Later, the perpetrators were apprehended in one of the warehouses in the Oltiariq district of the Fergana region while loading 50 tons of local “lazer” rice, which is subject to higher customs tariffs, into an empty truck.

The cargo owners attempted to evade 500 million soums in customs payments by carrying out a fake transit operation to illegally export rice from the territory of the republic. As a result of operational measures, 50 tons of rice, 50 tons of groats, and two trucks with an estimated value of 2.1 billion soums were seized. The investigation is ongoing, — the statement said.

Recall that at the Tashkent airport, a smuggler pretended to be a pilgrim to bring in medicines. The man decided that law enforcement officers are not checking the citizens who arrived from Umrah.
