A resident of Uzbekistan was imprisoned for liking on the internet six years ago

The accused liked the post and thus distributed it among his virtual friends on Odnoklassniki.

In Surkhandarya region, a man who “like” and distributed the publication “Abdullah Domla”, containing prohibited religious materials, was sentenced, the regional court’s press service reported.

According to the information, in 2019, a man on the Odnoklassniki.ru messenger “liked” and thus distributed a post by Abduğani Umarov, also known as Abdulla Dölma, titled “Lover to Heaven”, which contained prohibited religious materials, among his virtual friends.

The Kumkurgan District Criminal Court found the man guilty under Article 244-1, part 3, clause “g” (Preparation, storage, distribution, or demonstration of materials containing a threat to public safety and public order using mass media or telecommunications networks, as well as the Internet), and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment, with the sentence to be served in a general regime correctional colony.

Earlier, it was reported that the list of extremist materials in Uzbekistan had been updated. The new version includes over a thousand sources of prohibited content.
