Drug traffickers were detained in Karakalpakstan with a large shipment of opium imported from Tajikistan, the State Security Service press service reported.

Law enforcement officers detained a previously convicted 53-year-old citizen in Nukus who attempted to sell 9 grams of opium to a 60-year-old man for 4 million soums. Another 5 grams of opium were seized from the drug dealer.

The supplier turned out to be a 44-year-old man who had previously been convicted of drug crimes. He was detained in the Khojeyli district while selling 20 grams of opium for 8 million soums. Also, 1 kg 176 g of opium was seized from him.

During operational activities, it was revealed that the drugs were smuggled from Tajikistan. A criminal case has been initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and the suspects have been detained.
