A young man who participated in hostilities on Russia’s side was convicted in the Samarkand region, UzNews reports, citing the court’s decision.

According to the case materials, in 2021, the young man went to Russia for work, where he was detained in December with drugs as a courier and sentenced to 9 years. He was sent to Colony No. 5 of Nizhny Tagil to serve his sentence.

As the accused himself stated, in 2024-2025, representatives of Russian military structures actively agitated among foreigners in the colony, offering to participate in the “Russia-Ukraine” war in exchange for freedom, money — 1.8 million rubles, housing, and citizenship.

According to him, in January 2025, he was forcibly sent to a military unit in the Ryazan region, after which he underwent training in Donetsk and Luhansk, participated in battles, and in February was shot by a drone attack. After treatment in Vladivostok, he fled and appealed to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow.

On July 27, 2025, he was returned to his homeland. The court found the young man guilty under Article 154 (Mercenarism). Taking into account his remorse and characteristics, he was sentenced to 4 years of restricted freedom with mandatory probation supervision and prohibition of leaving his place of residence.

As a reminder, nearly 400 soldiers who fought in the war were convicted in Uzbekistan. The number of criminal cases under this article in the country has increased significantly.
